what is solar cell and how does it work ??






Hello friends ! Today i am going to tell about the mechanism of solar sell. 


  In 21th century  solar cell become more popular in the world for generating electricity without expend any fuel or money.
Solar cell work on sun energy and sun's energy never will  be end, so we can use its energy. 
For use the energy of sun today scientists Invented many things like 
Solar cell , solar cooker, Green house , etc.
Some news about solar power :-

 In December 2009 , Switzerland launched  the first solar aircraft which name is solar impulse.
In 2014 a second aircraft launched which name is solar impulse 2 .it move globally by two pilots .

 In India July 15, 2017 indian railway lauched first  a  solar powered DEMU train from safdarjung railway station in Delhi.
Guwahti is first india's first railway station run by solar power .
These things tell us craze of solar power.

 Now advantage of solar cells:-

 1.) Solar power is pollution free and causes no green house gases to be emitted after installation.

 2.) Renewable clean power that is available everyday  of the year even cloudy day produce some energy.
And etc.
Okay, let's time to know " what is solar cell and how does it work" ??

 What is solar cell??
Solar cell is made with semiconductors like silicon, cadmium -Tellurium , Gallium - arsenic , etc. 
It is  basically a p- n junction  which generates emf( electro motive force) in other hand emf is energy, when solar radiation fall on  p- n junction.

 A simple p- n junction solar cell is shown in the figure..



How does it work?

 When solar light fall on p-n junction then electrons - holes pairs generate . Electrons and holes separate due to electric field in depletion region so electrons sweep n- type and holes sweep p- type.
Electron collect on n- side and hole on p- side , it make p- side positive and n- side negative giving rise to photo voltage. Thus current flows to external load.

 Uses of solar cells :-
Solar cells are used to power electronic devices in satellites and space vehicles and also as power supply to other machines. 
Disadvantage of solar cell :-
1.) High intial costs for material and installation.
2.) No solar power in night so need large battery bank to store.
3.) Devices that run on DC power directly are more expensive.
